"POC" who act like someone is any less worth defending for the colour of their skin are prime examples that while it’s entirely inevitable to grow physically, it’s also entirely possible to remain the mental age of a shit-diapered infant.

Anonymous said: Sorry to sound ignorant, but why do MRAs and Feminists act like arch enemies when they're both working towards the same goal? I mean, MRAs want to deal with issues that men face, while feminists want to deal with women's issues. I do agree the women definitely face more issues than men and MRAs do tend to be very whiny sometimes. Even so, I don't understand why so many Feminists and MRAs hate each other. You both want equality, so why not work together?

thesilverdragonfly:

claudiaboleyn:

If you took a look at MRAs online then you’d see why a movement for gender equality/liberation from the Patriarchy/general goodness and the progression of humanity, wouldn’t want a thing to do with them.

Dear anon,

No. Just no.

The MRA do not want equal rights and there is a HUGE difference between feminism and the MRA. Feminists want true gender equality. They want women to have the same rights as men. They want everybody to be free of the constrictive gender roles caused by the patriarchy.

The MRA are a bunch of misogynists who are infuriated by the notion of women’s rights. The idea of them not being able to oppress women angers them. If you don’t believe me then check out some of their stuff. They encourage forms of violence against women and vilify feminists for no good reason.

The MRA don’t even care about men’s rights. When they say ‘men’s rights’ they really mean straight, white, middle-class men’s rights. If you support equality do not be an MRA.

Well colour me intrigued. Disappointed, but intrigued.

Hasty Generalization fallacy? Check.

Ad hominem fallacy? Check.

False dichotomy fallacy? Check.

Now, I’m not even an MRA, but based on what I’ve read, more often than not it’s been feminists derailing preventing MRA discussions. Case in point:

Exhibit A.

Exhibit B. -(notably at 2:08)

Why is that? From each video it appears that the protestors don’t even know what the conferences will be discussing, yet because it is from a Men’s Rights group they automatically assume it is hate speech? What are these feminists afraid of?

For a group that claims to advocate for men’s rights you seem to be doing a damned good job of shutting up any platform for reasonable discussion, even when it’s a woman leading the discussion. Weird how people can say one thing and do something else entirely, innit?

Zoe Quinn confirmed for fraud. #ZoeQuinn #GamerGate

Aaaand more lies.

This woman is just HORRIBLE. She’s a complete hypocrite, manipulates everyone, always goes back on her word, and then pulls the victim card whenever people call her out so she can continue to be horrible.

The gaming industry is full of inventive, successful, and intelligent women. Why is so much attention being giving to Zoe Quinn, who’s basically just a professional victim?

~Mod Silvermoon424

How on earth can people still support this woman?  You either have to be blind, stupid, or giving her a free pass because she’s a woman.  In which case you’re a massive sexist.

"blind stupid and sexist" are the three things you need on your resume to be an "Elite high profile games journalist"

p.s. my literally blind friends don’t support this piece of garbage, your brain would have to be MIA for you to buy into her garbage

They give her attention because we keep making these dumb conspiracy-like montages “SEE I TOLD YOU SHE WAS A LIAR”. Shit, people, we got better things to do. Like playing video games for example.

I disagree. Corruption should be taken to the forefront. This person is outright lying to people. And no, this isn’t a “conspiracy-like montage”, this is a set of quote that have been stated on the internet. A quick google search can verify any of these. The first one for example is verified by this source here as well as this one. I can’t go into further detail because I’m quite busy right now.

If you want to play video games and do your thing, I’m not going to judge you, but instead off why people are angry and assume people are mad because of a conspiracy theory, I suggest you investigate why people are mad and decide for yourself whether or not you want to get involved.

You want to do the right thing, I get that. However it looks like you’re doing a witch-hunt and are trying to get her to leave the industry. I mean, she’s not perfect, I agree with that, but isn’t that a little too much ?

Well considering it involved many people of influence within the video game journalism industry, no, I personally don’t think this is too much. Especially when there are people who, despite the overwhelming amount of evidence to the contrary, continue to weave the narrative of Zoe Quinn being the poor, defenceless victim in a sea of unapologetic misogyny.

You do know that those pictures aren’t irrefutable proofs, right ?

Nobody said they were. But the evidence does appear to indicate that, at the very least, Zoe Quinn has not been completely honest regarding her game, among other things.

No, the other guy’s right. We should be leaving Zoe Quinn alone because nobody’s perfect. I mean, who hasn’t ever (allegedly) committed fraud before? I mean, it’s only a criminal offense after all and in this case, lying about charity. No, we should totally just leave her be and let her get away with pulling that shit. It’s totally cool. After all, we don’t want to be the ones on the “a little too much” side! Again, it’s only lying about proceeds going to charity, thus profiting off of people’s desires to help those who need it…but let’s not go too far! Let’s just shut up and go back to playing video games and ignoring every shitty thing the industry is involved in!

Now doesn’t that sound so much better? I sure think so!

I’m going to go ahead and respectfully assume you had no idea who Zoe Quinn was before you saw this post, or you’ve been entirely out of touch with the recent gamergate controversy, because if you think people’s only issue with Zoe Quinn revolves around this single set of screencaps then you have severely underestimated the situation.

And, with all due respect I don’t think we should “leave this alone”, because “leaving it alone” is exactly what got us to this point. She and everyone involved need to be held accountable and that won’t happen if we “leave it alone and go back to playing video games”.

Edit: It’s been brought to my attention that you were being sarcastic, which is obvious now that I read it again, in which case I apologize and redact what I said. That’s what I get for speed-reading before I get on the train. I see the point you’re making.

If you can read that, and see that, first know its not “the internet ’ calling basic white girls basic. It’s black women and other women of color that are tired of ordinary looking, unskilled, mediocre white women being overly represented while stealing black culture (like you did via appropriating AAVE)  while we have to litterally hunt through  magazine, TV shows, catwalks and movies for a black woman that looks like us.
You want to stop being basic, stop appropriating. Stop celebrating the same stock images of white women and start putting easily identifiable  black women in your magazines and on your covers on a regular basis.
I cannot believe you would write and article about this shit and not even begin to address why we would  call them that.
DO you even have black writers? FAIL

"stealing black culture"
I had no idea using a basic word in the english language as an insult was “stealing black culture”
If you honestly squeal like scalded cats over someone else using the word “basic” as an insult and claim your culture is being stolen, then honey, it’s not the white woman whose having an identity crisis.
Turns out you can appropriate your own culture by using the english language!

And when I said just an hour or so ago that people seem to have no understanding of “black culture” as it already stands, this is exactly what I was talking about.
They are effectively perpetuating racial stereotypes about black people in the name of being “anti-racist”, which has to be the most ironic thing I’ve ever seen since joining this website.

There is no “Brown culture”

Just like there is no “white culture”

Or “black culture”

There are thousands of different cultures and to lump them all together into one single…

I was obviously talking about America.

Here Black Culture is a thing. Its our name for our culture.

That’s why I capitalized it.

There is such a thing. Maybe not outside of America, but that doesn’t change a thing. Should aspects and names for things in my home country become meaningless because my Puerto Rican roots have a different understanding? Because my issue is that there are people who say that my culture doesn’t exist because their are people inside and outside my country to whom it doesn’t apply.

You’re putting words in my mouth. Yes, in America black culture means African-American culture. In America. That’s exactly my point. Tumblr isn’t only inhabited by Americans. And as such, people shouldn’t automatically assume that “black culture” is something one will automatically understand. It seems like as it is people have a terribly poor understanding of what encompasses “African-American culture” (it seems to have been trivialized to racial stereotypes for a lot of people on here), and constantly calling it “black culture” sounds ignorant to an international medium. The only point me and others are making is that people on this website shouldn’t just automatically assume everyone will know what they mean when they say “black culture”. If someone says “black culture” while having a conversation offline in the United States? Fine, there wouldn’t really be an argument.

But tumblr isn’t America. The company may be American, but the audience is not entirely comprised of Americans. It isn’t so hard to make the distinction “black culture in America” or just say “African-American culture”.

The original post wasn’t arguing that your culture doesn’t exist, and that’s a terribly simplistic interpretation of the argument. They are saying that it isn’t singular, nor monolithic.
